![]() Also, the way it stores related objects can give you some accidental parametric modeling that works surprisingly well. In some aspects, brl-cad can do about the same as OpenSCAD, but with a more mature object model and a bit faster engine. I've done some amazing things with tcl scripts, makefiles, and brl-cad to make parametric models. I use brl-cad quite a bit, but it is klunky in comparison to most other modern cad packages.īrl-cad doesn't exactly support parametric modeling, but it doesn't prevent it either. The model wings3d and sketchup uses still blows my mind a bit. Newer versions seem to crash less than older ones. For some reason, it seems to crash every time I try to use it lately, and either it is severely lacking in some critical drawing features, or I just haven't figured out how to use its drawing model. It also has no parametric abilities, and even very limited ability to set dimensions of things, and no real ability to measure between parts already drawn. Also, some areas in blender, like the binary geometry operators, seem buggy, and don't always work.īlender is a really cool program, and it is really useful for making small tweaks to existing models, but I haven't had a lot of luck trying to use it to make reliable solid models needed for skeinforge. I've tried a couple of different methods to fix this, but so far, it seems once a model in blender decides it is hollow instead of solid, it's near impossible to fix. However, the surface meshes it makes tend to have cracks in them, and when you try to fill things, they "leak" and occasionally it gets confusing if things are on the inside or outside of the solid model. It's a surface modeling program, and does that extremely well. The problem with blender is that it isn't a solid modeling program, and was never meant to be. I don't feel I know it well, but I do feel the better I know it the less I like it. Auto-ballons and Auto-Bill of Material for fullyĪnotated assemblies. Personally I use Solidworks Student edition (under 100$), but you have This means you can take all my work and use If you want to edit the wiki, or the source code, I need to add you asĪ project member, tell me your Google account user name. It is possible to make Add-In modules, see HeeksCNC, HeeksArt, and HeeksCAD has been built for Windows, Ubuntu, Debian, and OpenSUSE. There are currentlyĮnglish, German, and Itallian translations.
